Life's Crests and Troughs

A funny thing happened to me last weekend. While spending the weekend hanging with Slimdi & the gang, I left my favorite toothbrush in New Jersey. You're probably thinking... how can someone have a favorite toothbrush? Well, I do. Teeth are a big part of my life. You'd understand if you had braces, twice; headgear, multiple retainers, including one that needed to be turned with a small key... all the while practicing for your Bat-mitzvah. 'Nuf said. But wait ... there's good news too. Although I deeply miss my electric toothbrush, I still had great toothpaste waiting for me at home. You can't try it until the spring, but I got a sneak peak at Crest's new Nature's Expressions line. I tried their peppermint. It's actually infused with peppermint oil.
Here's my review. The paste was refreshing and made my mouth tingle. But the peppermint was not overpowering. I'm looking forward to trying some of the other flavors in the pack. I think you will too.

I like it. I really, really like it!

Now to an update on Bobbi Brown's face oil. You may recall that I wrote about the oil a few weeks ago following fashion week. I attended Tory Burch's show which was where I bumped into Bobbi.
Bobbi explained to me personally that the oil helps keep skin moist and dewy -- but not shiny.
So I bought some.
And you know what?
I like it. I really, really like it. I apply it at night and rub away my stress. Truth is ... I was worried I'd break out. So far, so good. And last night, when I got up around 1am and couldn't sleep, I used the oil to massage my face. Then I conked out. The oil is also good on your cuticles.
I bought mine at Bergdorf Goodman, but you can pick it up at high-end department stores or online. It's not cheap, but you don't need a lot. Another top-notch product from the folks at Bobbi Brown.

And you thought models didn't eat...

The Aveda hair people were amazing to watch.
They created silky, sexy styles for the models.

Bobbi's Secret Weapon

During fashion week I had a very nice conversation with beauty guru Bobbi Brown.

I'd like to say a few things about this Montclair-based mom of three.
Bobbi, I loved your Helen Ficalora necklace. Great choice.

Now, I just wanted to say thanks for your wonderful beauty books.
Your books encourage women to celebrate their beauty.
That's a wise gift for readers of all ages.

Now to the beauty biz.

When I asked Bobbi how her models looked so dewy ... during the harsh winter ... she told me she used a little face oil on their faces.

Oil?

Yep.

Bobbi explained to me that a few drops helps the skin stay moisturized and fresh. It also keeps the makeup from caking up.

Thanks for the tip, Bobbi! Keep 'em coming.

CEW Beauty Product Demonstration

I had the awesome opportunity to attend the CEW beauty product demonstration last week. I came as a volunteer and left with $1,000 worth of product.
I tried a variety of grooming products.

Here's a brief list:

1. Oscar Blandi dry shampoo
2. The Lip Scrub by Sarah Rapp
3. Kinerase face cream -- professional grade
4. Vera Wang Princess
5. Perlier -- Hemp with Rosemary Oil body cream

The funny thing is ... my favorite discovery was something so simple.

Clean and Clear has created a spot treatment for pimples that creates a layer over the zit. Think of it like a protective layer. So simple ... so necessary for people who pick!

Fashion Week

Backstage at Tory Burch. How fun to watch models go from women to glamazons.
p.s. the clothes were awesome, too. I loved Tory's jumpers and her dressy dresses.
The makeup was picture perfect. I can't wait for Bobbi Brown's new lipcolor:
Stone.

I've linked to this article from the Times. It's about dealing with dry skin during the winter. It's a good read and a helpful article.

When I get dry ... this is what I use (Neutrogena product)

Fashion Week

Please stay tuned for my mega-sized post on Fashion Week.
This was my first experience at Fashion Week and I really enjoyed myself.
I went for the makeup and hair and came out with so much more.
I'll be posting about my conversation with makeup guru Bobbi Brown and with the top Aveda stylist Frank Rizzieri. Stay tuned.

Some highlights:
*Bobbi's new must-have gloss "Stone" (available this spring)
* Learning how to use face oil
* Watching the best of the best do hair -- think 4 or 5 people working on one person.
*Fresh, luminous skin

A&D Does Double Duty

Thanks to my friend Danielle, I've found a great and very inexpensive way to moisturize and protect my lips. It's called A&D ointment. You're probably familiar with it as a baby product. Turns out it works like magic on the lips. One tip: buy the ointment, not the cream. Danielle says you can also use it on irritated earlobes.
